Visitors who are important to the patient are welcome.
Please check with a member of the ICU team for the best times to visit. During the day, a staff member at the ICU reception will escort you to your loved one. At night, ring the bell and wait for someone to answer the intercom before entering.
Visiting at the bedside is limited to two people at any one time, however in extenuating circumstances this can be reviewed with the Consultant and Nurse in Charge.Â
Visitors may be asked to wait in the waiting area and whilst this may feel worrying, this enables us to ensure that the patient’s privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.Â
During your visit you may be asked to leave the bed space temporarily to allow us to care for the patient. This may take some time, but it does not necessarily indicate a problem, we will explain what is happening whenever possible and please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
To minimise the spread of infections, please use the hand sanitiser provided at each entrance, exit, and bed space before and after visiting. Please do not visit the ICU if you are ill or have an infection and if you have had episodes of diarrhoea or vomiting, wait 48 hours after your last episode before visiting.
For infection prevention and control reasons, flowers are not permitted.
